A man has been charged with murdering a pensioner in Belfast 23 years ago.

The accused, who is 50 and lives in Bury, England, was remanded in custody.

The court was told that he was orginally from Northern Ireland and had been arrested in England on Tuesday.

He was charged with murdering 65-year-old Stanley Close who was found strangled in a flat at Canton Court in 1986.

A Detective told the court that he believed he could connect the accused to the charge.
