Actor Leonard Stone passes away

THE character actor Leonard Stone, who will be best remembered for his role in the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, has passed away at the age of 87.

He played the role of an overindulgent father in the 1971 movie, starring alongside Gene Wilder.

Mr. Stone’s career had begun in the 1950s on Broadway before moving on to films and television.

Over the years he had appeared in many of the top TV shows including Gunsmoke, L.A. Law, Falcon Crest and Hill Street Blues.

As well as appearing in Willy Wonka (1971), Mr. Stone’s other movies included The Man from Independence (1974), in which he starred with Robert Vaughn, and Hardly Working (1980) with Jerry Lewis.

He also appeared alongside Charlton Heston in the 1973 science fiction classic Soylent Green.
