Actor Peter Halliday passes away

THE actor Peter Halliday has passed away at the age of 87.

Mr. Halliday had enjoyed a career which embraced television, stage and film over a sixty-year period.

His major break came in the 1960s when he starred as Dr. John Fleming in the TV science fiction series A for Andromeda alongside Julie Christie. The success of the show led to a follow-up series, The Andromeda Breakthrough, being commissioned. 

Among his other TV credits was appearances in Z Cars, The Saint, Man in a Suitcase and Our Friends in the North.

He had a particularly long association with the Dr. Who TV series. Over the years he appeared in 23 episodes, working with four different actors in the lead role. His final appearance in the series was in the 1988 story Remembrance of the Daleks.

During his career Mr. Halliday worked with some of the greats including Sir John Gielgud and Richard Burton.

His film credits included Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) and The Remains of the Day (1993).
