Actor Tom Bosley passes away

The actor Tom Bosley, who was best known for his role in the TV series Happy Days, has died. He was 83.

Ironically, Mr. Bosley’s involvement with the series from the 1970s almost did not happen. He first turned down the part of Howard Cunningham, but he changed his mind after re-reading material from the scripts.

Happy Days ran for eleven seasons and brought his talents to millions of viewers.

He went on to play roles in two long-running TV series — Sheriff Amos Tucker (Murder She Wrote) and Father Dowling (Father Dowling Mysteries).

Among those to pay tribute to the veteran actor was Henry Winkler, who starred alongside him in Happy Days. He said: “Tom was our television father but he was also a father figure in real life.”

Mr. Bosley had been suffering from lung cancer. He died of heart failure at a hospital in California.
