TRIBUTES have been paid to the character actress Jane Connell who has passed away at the age of 87.
During her long career, Ms. Connell enjoyed success on both stage and screen. She was well known for her roles on Broadway but also appeared regularly on TV shows and in movies.
Her roles in television included appearances on shows such as M*A*S*H, Bewitched and Law & Order.
One of her best remembered roles on Broadway was as the secretary Agnes Gooch in the musical Mame — a role she reprised for the movie version in 1974 which starred Lucille Ball in the title role. Among her other Broadway hits were Lend Me A Tenor in 1989 and Crazy For You in 1995. Her final stage appearance was in The Full Monty in 2001.
Her other film credits included Kotch (1971), alongside Walter Matthau, Won Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976) and Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde (1995).
Ms. Connell passed away at the Lillian Booth Actors’ Home of the Actors Fund in New Jersey. She is survived by her husband Gordon Connell and daughters Maggie and Melissa.
