Antiques expert David Barby passes away

THE antiques expert David Barby, who was a well known figure on television, has passed away. He was 63.

Mr. Barby was a successful auctioneer who had a particular interest in antique ceramics.

He spent most of his career in his native Warwickshire where he became a partner in an auction house.

Mr. Barby was able to being his expertise to a wider audience through television, making his debut on the first episode of Flog It in 2002.

He went on to appear in other BBC shows Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip (see below).

Millions of viewers enjoyed his warm, jovial style.

Many tributes were paid to the antiques expert. In a statement, the team behind the Flog It show described Mr. Barby as “an ambassador for antiques TV”.

It continued: “His sense of fun, gentle personality and great knowledge of and passion for antiques, endeared him to the hundreds of people he worked with and the millions of viewers at home.”

Mr. Barby passed away after suffering a stroke.
