THE broadcaster and journalist Ray Gosling has passed away at the age of 74.
During his career, Mr. Gosling, who was also a gay rights activist, became well known as a documentary presenter on television. He also worked extensively on radio.
His programmes for television covered such subjects as statues, windmills and even gnomes (see below). Some of his documentaries turned the spotlight on his own life — in one of his last shows he discussed old age and his views on death, including giving viewers a preview of music which had been composed for his own funeral (see below).
He had started out as a youth worker in Nottingham before turning to broadcasting and journalism. In recent years he had been a regular contributor to the BBC’s Out East Midlands.
During one show in 2010, Mr. Gosling claimed he had killed a former lover who had been dying of AIDS. He said he had smothered the man (see below). However, after being arrested and questioned by police on suspicion of murder he was charged with wasting police time after detectives decided the claim had been false. He was convicted and given a 90-day suspended sentence.
Mr. Gosling passed away at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
