Cathedral service is planned for Alex Higgins

The funeral service for former world snooker champion Alex Higgins will be held in St. Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast.

The ‘Hurricane’ died at his flat in the city last weekend after battling throat cancer for many years.

The Service at St. Anne’s in Donegall Street will take place on Monday (August 1) at 11.30 a.m.

It is understood that the Cathedral was chosen by the Higgins family as this is where Alex’s parents were married.

Hundreds of friends and fans are expected to attend the Service.

Burial will take place at Roselawn Cemetery.
