Character actor Bill McKinney passes away

THE character actor Bill McKinney, who enjoyed a long career in films and television, has passed away. He was 80.

Mr. McKinney had started his career mostly in television with appearances in shows such as The Monkees, McCloud and Alias Smith and Jones.

His big movie break came with Deliverance in 1972 in which he played a sinister Hillbilly character whose “squel like a pig” scene formed one of the most memorial points in the film, which was directed by John Boorman. 

He went on to work with Clint Eastwood on a number of films including The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976).

His other film credits include The Shootist (1976), The Gauntlet (1977), City Slickers: The Legend of Curly’s Gold (1994) and The Green Mile (1999).

Mr. McKinney had been suffering from cancer but was still able to film a commercial only days before his death.
