Charities launch appeal for Pakistan flood victims

Charities have launched a combined appeal for funds after floods in Pakistan killed at least 1,600 people.

The appeal has been made by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which represents 13 aid agencies including the British Red Cross, Oxfam and Islamic Relief.

DEC chief executive, Brendan Gormley, said the floods had left millions of people fighting to survive.

“DEC member agencies and their partners have already reached over three hundred thousand people on the ground”, said Mr. Gormley, “but we urgently need the public’s help to save more lives”.

There are number of ways to donate to the appeal: Online, by telephone (0370 60 60 900), at any Post Office (quote Freepay 1384) or by post (DEC Appeal, PO Box 999, London EC3A 3AA.  Cheques made payable to: DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal).
