Dean McKelvey launches an appeal for Haiti

The Dean of Belfast, Dr. Houston McKelvey, who is well known for his pre-Christmas charity sit-outs at St. Anne’s Cathedral, has launched a special appeal to help the victims of the disaster in Haiti.

Dr. McKelvey has placed a ‘Barrel for Haiti’ just inside the front door of the Cathedral so that donations can be collected to help the people of the Caribbean country which has been devastated by an earthquake.

It is feared that over fifty thousand people have been killed in the disaster.

The Dean says the sight of human suffering on television “is enough to convince us that Haiti needs all the international aid it can get”.

The Cathedral is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. on Sundays.

Donation cheques should be made payable to: ‘Belfast Cathedral - Haiti’.
