Design to be chosen for Bill McLaren sculpture

A design will be chosen this weekend for a sculpture to honour rugby commentator Bill McLaren.

Known as the “Voice Of Rugby”, Mr. McLaren died in January 2010 aged 86.

The sculpture is planned for the broadcaster’s home town of Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

A fund of £15,000 has been established to finance the initiative.

A number of pupils from Hawick High School have been involved in the development and planning for the sculpture which is to be sited in a local park close to where Mr. McLaren lived.

The pupils have been working with a professional artist.

The final design will be chosen at a ceremony planned for Saturday (April 16).
