Health experts have reported that there has been a fall in the number of swine flu cases being detected in Northern Ireland, although two more people have died.
The latest deaths brings to 23 the total number of victims who have passed away while being treated for the illness.
It is known that 20 of those who died had been suffering from underlying health problems.
However, experts say there has been a fall in the number of new swine flu cases being detected.
The Public Health Agency said 41 new cases were found last week compared to 86 being discovered the week before.
Dr. Maureen McCartney from he PHA said: “It is reassuring that the number of new flu cases per week has once again more than halved. If the current trend continues, swine flu has passed its peak.”
But health officials have warned against complacency.
Dr. Liz Reaney from the Department of Health said: “The further decrease in the levels of swine flu circulating in Northern Ireland is very much in keeping with the picture across the rest of the UK. However, it is still important that the public do not become complacent and maintain high standards of respiratory and hand hygiene.”
She added: “We will continue to keep the situation under close review in the coming weeks.”
