Rose Gray, who was one of the UK’s most influential chefs, has died. She was 71 and had been suffering from cancer.
Ms. Gray co-founded the River Café in London in 1987 with Ruth Rogers. At first it was only them and a single waiter and because of planning restrictions they could only offer a lunch.
Today their restaurant is one of the capital’s best known and most successful.
Many of the country’s top chefs, among them Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, have worked at the establishment which has a Michelin star.
A series of River Café cookbooks have sold millions of copies over the years.
Many tributes have been paid to Ms. Gray who was appointed MBE in the New Year Honours.
Ms. Gray had battled back to health after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001 but brain tumours were discovered last year.
