Famous sculptor passes away

The death has taken place of the sculptor Louise Bourgeois. She was 98.

Born in France, Louise Bourgeois had lived in New York since 1938.

She was famous for producing giant spider sculptures which were exhibited around the world.

Her work, including a 30ft. tall spider, was featured in the opening exhibition of London’s Tate Modern in 2000.

Despite living in New York for decades Bourgeois was regarded as a peripheral figure in the city’s art circles. Indeed, she only received the honour of a retrospective at the city’s Museum of Modern Art when she was 70.

Louise Bourgeois passed away in New York. She had suffered a heart attack at the weekend.
