Film actress Linda Christian passes away

The film actress Linda Christian, who had been married to Tyrone Power, has passed away. She was 87.

Ms. Christian was regarded as the first Bond Girl after appearing in a television production of Casino Royale on America’s CBS network in 1954 — eight years before Dr. No became the first Bond film.

She had made her film debut in 1944 alongside Danny Kaye in the musical comedy Up In Arms. Four years later she appeared in Tarzan And The Mermaids which was Johnny Weissmuller’s last appearance in the title role.

In 1949 she married screen star Tyrone Power at a ceremony in Rome which was almost mobbed by hundreds of young fans.

The couple had two daughters, but the marriage was to end in divorce in 1955. 

She married once more in 1963 to the British actor Edmund Purdom, but this only lasted a few months.

Her later career was mostly spent in Italy where she made a number of films.

She passed away in California after battling cancer.
