Food critic Egon Ronay passes away

The food critic Egon Ronay has died at his home in England. He was 94.

Mr. Ronay was famous for his food guides which were regarded as the ‘Restaurant-goers’ Bible’. 

He published his first restaurant guide in 1957.

Born in Hungary, Mr. Ronay emigrated to Britain following World War II and opened a French restaurant in London’s Knightsbridge.

He went on to write a food column for The Daily Telegraph and helped usher in the era of restaurant reviews in the U.K.

Mr. Ronay is regarded as one of the people who helped transform British eating habits.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and his two daughters.
