FORMER England cricketer Graham Dilley has passed away. He was 52.
His ten-year international career included two Ashes wins, with the key role he played in the famous victory at Headingley in 1981 being particularly outstanding.
In total he played 41 Test matches and 36 one-day internationals. He took a total of 138 wickets during his Test career at an average of 29.78.
The former Kent and Worcestershire paceman had retired in 1992 and had gone on to become a respected coach, working with England on their tour of India in 2001-02. More recently he had been based at Loughborough University.
He passed away in hospital following a short illness.
Many tributes have been paid from across the cricketing world.
Hugh Morris, managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board, said: “As well as being a bowler of the highest class, Graham made an immense contribution to our game as a coach, and his ability to impart his knowledge and wisdom to future generations of young cricketers will be sorely missed.”
