The former MP Winston Churchill, who was the grandson of the Wartime Prime Minister, has died. He was 69 and had been suffering from cancer.
Mr. Churchhill served as an MP for almost 30 years. He had worked as a journalist in the 1960s before being elected for the Conservatives in the Greater Manchester constituency of Stretford in 1970. Following boundary changes he went on to represent the Davyhulme constituency.
He did not achieve high ministerial office during his Parliamentary career and retired in 1997 when his constituency was abolished as the result of boundary changes.
His father was Randolph Churchill, the son of Sir Winston.
After retiring from Parliament Mr. Churchill became president of the UK National Defence Association, which campaigned for more support for the armed forces.
