Former teaching union chief passes away

FRANK Bunting, who was head of one of Northern Ireland’s main teaching unions, has passed away. He was 61.

Mr. Bunting had been Northern Secretary of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), but retired earlier this year on health grounds. He had been suffering from cancer.

Many tributes have been paid to the former union official who also had a long association with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

Mr. Bunting was highly respected within the trade union movement as an official who worked tirelessly for his members.

The former teacher had worked for INTO, which mainly represents staff at Catholic maintained schools, for 20 years. 

During his time as the union’s regional officer he had strived to build closer links with the Ulster Teachers’ Union which mainly represents staff in state controlled schools.

Mr. Bunting’s Funeral will take place on Wednesday (August 31) at Roselawn Crematorium. For full details see below.
