The funeral has taken place of Ronan Kerr the young police officer who died when a bomb exploded under his car at the weekend.
The many mourners were joined by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, the First and Deputy First Ministers, Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness, and the leaders of the four main churches.
Constable Kerr, who was 25, had been a GAA player.
Today, members of his local club, the Beragh Red Knights, joined police officers to form a guard of honour outside The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Beragh when the officer’s coffin arrived.
The Irish Primate, Cardinal Sean Brady, told mourners the murder was “an evil deed” and he called on the killers to stop their activities, adding that people did not want violence.
And he appealed to people to use their influence to stop the young becoming involved in violence.
The Cardinal said: “Parents and grandparents, I beg you, plead with your children and with your grandchildren, not to get involved with violence.
“Never let them be deceived by those who say that Ireland will be united or the union made more secure by war. They are wrong. It is an illusion”.
Following the Service, Constable Kerr’s body was laid to rest at Drumduff Cemetery.
