THE Funeral has taken place of Newry man Kevin Bell who was killed in a road accident in New York.
Mr. Bell, who was 26, died after being struck by a vehicle in the Woodlawn area of the Bronx during the early hours of Sunday, June 16.
Police said they had received an emergency call at 3.30 a.m. and when they arrived at the scene the victim was already dead.
He had moved to New York 10 months ago and had been living in the Woodlawn area, which is home to a large Irish-American community.
Mr. Bell had been out with friends in the Upper East Side area of the city but had decided to make his way home earlier than the rest of the group. Police say they believe he was struck by a dark-coloured car whose driver did not remain at the scene.
Many tributes have been paid to the young man who had been a keen Gaelic footballer and was well liked in his local community.
Friends helped raise thousands of pounds to assist with the costs of having Mr. Bell’s remains returned to Ireland.
The Funeral took place in Newry on Saturday, June 22. Requiem Mass was held in The Church of The Sacred Heart, Cloughogue. For full details click here.
