Joan Tomlin was a founder member of Alliance Party

Joan Tomlin who was a founder member of the Alliance Party has passed away at her home in England. She was 90.

Mrs. Tomlin served as a councillor in Carrickfergus after being elected in 1973.

She had moved to Northern Ireland when her husband took up a position with STC in Monkstown.

Mrs. Tomlin was a popular Alliance activist who encouraged many people to become involved with the party and for some to go on and seek public office.

Many tributes have been paid to her.

She was made a Freeman of the Borough in the mid-1980s. 

Following the death of her husband the mother of six retired from local politics and moved to Engand in the 1980s.
