Paddy Mullins, who was one of the great horse race trainers, has died. He was 91.
Know as the ‘Quiet Man’ of Irish racing, Mr. Mullins enjoyed a long and successful career both on the flat and over jumps.
He will be remembered for his association with the brilliant mare Dawn Run, which is the only horse to win both the Champion Hurdle in 1984 and the Gold Cup two years later.
The horse is commemorated with a statue at Cheltenham paddock.
Mr. Mullins also enjoyed success in many other events including the Irish Grand National, the Irish Oaks and the Cheltenham Festival.
He retired in 2005, but by that point he had established something of a racing dynasty. His son Tom took over the stables, while his other two sons, Willie and Tony, are both successful trainers.
