The mystery surrounding the disappearance of ancient remains from an archaeological site has been solved.
The bones of a child, thought to have been buried thousands of years ago, disappeared from the site in west Donegal.
Archaeologists had already found other remains at the site, which is a quarry near Gweedore, but had left the child’s bones. When the experts returned they discovered the remains had disappeared.
However, it has now emerged that the bones were removed by a local man who was worried they could have been damaged by holidaymakers. The remains have now been handed over to the archaeologists.
