Man dies following shark attack

A man has died following a shark attack in Western Australia.

The 31-year-old victim was surfing at Cowaramup Bay in Gracetown when the attack happened.

A local resident had spotted the man coming off his surf board and disappearing. He rushed to the beach and found the man lying on rocks.

The victim, who had suffered a leg injury in the attack, was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

Wildlife officials are now trying to establish if the shark has remained in the area.

Great white sharks are not uncommon in that part of Australia.
