The funeral has taken place of Sean McGettigan who was a prominent figure in the GAA.
Mr. McGettigan, who was 93, was a skilled administrator who served for many years on the Antrim County Board.
Many within the sport see Casement Park in West Belfast as a monument to Sean McGettigan’s tireless work for the GAA. He or ganised many fund raising functions which made it possible for the ground to be purchased and developed.
His interests were not confined to sport, while serving on the Antrim County Board Mr. McGettigan, who loved music, song and dance, started the Scor competitions. He encouraged many to participate in the Scor Sinsear and Scor na nOg.
The funeral was held earlier today (Monday). Requiem Mass took place at 12 noon in St. Anne’s Church, Kingsway, Finaghy.
