The actor Peter Graves, who starred in the classic TV series Mission: Impossible has died. He was 83.
Mr. Graves, who would have celebrated his 84th. birthday next week, died from a suspected heart attack at his home in Los Angeles.
He will be mostly remembered for two roles, agent Jim Phelps in the Mission: Impossible TV series and as bungling pilot Clarence Oveur in the film Airplane (1980) — a role he initially turned down.
In latter years Mr. Graves, who was a devout Christian, made a number of quest appearances in the US TV series 7th. Heaven.
Mr. Graves is survived by his wife, Joan, and three daughters.
