Walter Breuning, who was regarded as being the oldest man in the world, has died in the United States. He was 114.
Mr. Breuning remained active until the end of his life.
He spent his final years at a retirement home in Great Falls, Montana, where he followed a daily exercise regime of walking the corridors each morning.
He also followed a regime of two meals a day, and the only medicine he took was a single daily aspirin.
Remaining mentally active was also important to the former railway worker.
He said: “You are given a brain and I believe you have to use it every day”.
Mr. Breuning was able to recall as a three-year-old hearing his grandfather talk about his involvement in the American Civil War.
His wife Agnes died in 1957. They had been married for 35 years.
Mr. Breuning never feared death. He always said: “Some people are scared of dying. Never be afraid to die, because you’re born to die”.
