As fund raising efforts continue for the Haiti earthquake, the Disasters Emergency Committee has said more money is needed to address long-term plans to help the victims.
The DEC’s appeal has already raised £60m, but the organisation says further funds will be needed by member agencies to help the Haitian people rebuild their lives from the ruins.
“We want to ensure that the money that has and will be generouosly donated by the public is used to work with communities to help them rebuild from scratch”, says Brendan Gormley, the Chief Executive of the DEC.
“We don’t want the aid effort to just be a sticking plaster— we want to leave Haiti stronger that it was before the quake”, added Mr. Gormley.
There are several ways to make a donation: online, by telephone: 0370 60 60 900. donate over the counter at any post office or high street bank, or send a cheque made payable to: ‘DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal’ to PO Box 999, London EC3A 3AA.
