Problems discovered at US national cemetery

Major problems have been uncovered at America’s national cemetery, Arlington, where at least 211 graves have been left unmarked or misidentified.

Arlington National Cemetery, which is near Washington DC, is where America buries its heroes, including war casualties, Presidents and other dignitaries.

But a report has revealed that the record system at the cemetery, which is paper-based, could not account for the whereabouts of at least 211 remains, and it’s feared other cases could be found.

Two of the cases involve the remains of soldiers killed in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Army Inspector General, Lt. Gen. R. Steven Whitcomb, said investigators had not found evidence of criminal intent.

Two senior managers at cemetery are now facing disciplinary action.

Army experts will now begin the process of trying to locate and mark the 211 remains.
