Tributes have been paid to the radio presenter and rock journalist Robert Sandall who has died aged 58.
Mr. Sandall had written for many national publications during his career. He was rock critic for The Sunday Times for a number of years and also contributed to a range of magazines including Rolling Stone and Q.
He had become a rock journalist after enjoying life as a ‘ski-bum’ for several years, but the quality of his work soon earned him the respect of not only editors but also many rock stars.
Indeed, he was the only writer to be granted an interview when Sade launched her new album 2009.
During his career Mr. Sandall also gained experience in broadcasting. He was a presenter at one point on the cable channel VH1 and for many years was the co-presenter of Radio 2’s Mixing It show. In recent years he was a contributor on Radio 4’s Front Row.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002 and wrote a number of articles about his battle with the disease.
Mr. Sandall is survived by his wife and a daughter.
