Rathfriland community mourns death of young boy

The Rathfriland community has been plunged into mourning after the death of a popular young boy who had been injured in a boating accident.

Six-year-old Stuart Wilson lost his battle for life after suffering head injuries in the accident at Cranfield Bay on Monday (August 30).

Stuart was being towed on a wakeboard when he was struck by a speedboat.

People in his home town of Rathfriland are said to be ‘numb’ at the death.

Local Church of Ireland minister David Somerville knew Stuart well. He said: “Stuart attended Sunday school here every week. He was a typical little boy, always up to mischief and having fun.

“He was always smiling and having fun,” he added.

Stuart’s Funeral will take place on Saturday (September 4) in St. John’s Parish Church in Rathfriland. He will be buried in the adjoining Churchyard.
