Remembrance service held for victims of the blitz

A remembrance service has been held in London to mark the 70th. anniversary of the beginning of the blitz.

Thousands died in the raids which were carried out across the country.

Belfast suffered its first raid on April 16, 1941, when 200 german planes attacked the city. Hundreds of people died in the raid. It was to be the worst raid experienced by any city outside London.

The remembrance service took place in St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Among those who attended the service were nurses, ambulance workers and firefighters who had worked during the blitz.

A WWII Spitfire was among several planes which took part in a fly-past following the service.
