Rising star is struck down by meningitis

The world of opera has been left stunned after one of its rising stars died suddenly in South Africa.

Siphiwo Ntshebe was 34.

He was due to perform before a worldwide audience at the opening ceremony of the World Cup next month.

Mr. Ntshebe had been admitted to hospital in his home city of Port Elizabeth suffering from meningitis.

He had been chosen by Nelson Mandela to perform at the World Cup event in Johannesburg on June 11.
