Scottish politician tables a right to die bill

A member of the Scottish Parliament has tabled a bill which would give people the right to seek help to die at a time of their choosing.

Independentg MSP Margo MacDonald, who has Parkinson's Disease, is behind the initiative.

However, it looks unlikely the proposed bill will win support from a majority of MSPs.

The End-of-Life Assistance Bill would allow people, who believe their lives have become intolerable through illness or a trauma, to seek a doctor's help in dying.

As in all other regions of the United Kingdom, assisted suicide is outlawed in Scotland.

Ms MacDonald is urging people to lobby their politicians to back her bill.

"I believe the pubic are overwhelmingly in favour of this," she said,"and once they start getting in touch with their MSPs we will see support grow within parliament".
