Sixties pop show presenter passes away

The death has taken place of Keith Fordyce who presented the sixties pop show Ready Steady Go! on TV. He was 83.

The show went out on Fridays and Mr. Fordyce would introduce each broadcast with his catchphrase: “The weekend starts here”.

The show featured the chart toppers of the day with Mr. Fordyce introducing and interviewing all the big names including the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Mr. Fordyce had been working as a sports journalist before joining Radio Luxembourg as a presenter in 1955. 

After a spell with the BBC he moved into television with ITV, developing his skills on several shows including Thank Your Lucky Stars.

He presented Sounds of the Sixties and Beat the Record on BBC Radio 2 during the 1970s before ending his broadcasting career with Radio Devon.
