Thousands of people gathered in Belfast to bid farewell to former snooker world champion Alex Higgins.
The People’s Champion, who was 61, was found dead at his flat in the Sandy Row area of the city on July 24. He had battled throat cancer for many years.
The Funeral Service took place in St. Anne’s Cathedral.
People lined the streets as the coffin, which was carried in a horse-drawn hearse, was taken from the Donegall Road area to St. Anne’s.
Many familiar figures from the world of snooker were among those who attended the Service.
The Dean of Belfast, Houston McKelvey, told mourners that the former world champion had encountered two of the greatest temptations — fame and fortune and had found it difficult to cope.
A tribute from fellow snooker player Jimmy White was also read during the service in which he said Alex Higgins “was an individual, his own man, he was The Hurricane”.
The Service was followed by a private burial.
