Top photographer passes away

The death has taken place of Brian Duffy who rose to fame in the 1960s as a photographer.

Mr. Duffy was 76 and had been suffering from lung disease.

His work, along with that of his friends and rivals David Bailey and Terence Donovan, helped capture the spirit of the ‘Swinging 60s’ with portraits of actors, models and musicians.

Having studied painting at St. Martins School of Art he then switched to fashion design before working as a freelance artist at Harper’s Bazaar magazine. He then went on to make his name in fashion photography.

Mr. Duffy was notorious for his bad temper and famously set fire to part of his archive in 1979.

In later years he gave up photography to concentrate on furniture restoration, becoming one of the country’s top restorers of Regency furniture.

Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife, June, and his four children.
