Tributes are paid to a wonderful man of God

Tributes are being paid to the Reverend Cecil Kerr, founder of the Christian Renewal Centre in Rostrevor, who has died aged 74.

The Church of Ireland Bishop of Down and Dromore, Rev. Harold Miller led the tributes.

“He was a wonderful man of God,” said the Bishop, “His reconciling ministry was a true gift of God throughout the difficult times of the Troubles.

“Cecil held out a vision of the Kingdom of God which was a kingdom of unity, peace and power, providing a gospel contrast to the bitterness and division being experienced all around and even between Christians.”

Mr. Kerr was a former Church of Ireland chaplain at Queen’s University in Belfast.

However, in 1974 he left Queen’s and with his wife Myrtle founded the Christian Renewal Centre. They went on to pursue a vision for renewal and reconciliation for over thirty years.

They retired to Warrenpoint in 2000.

Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife Myrtle, daughter Ruth and sons David and Timothy.
