Tributes are paid to film director Ronald Neame

Tributes are being paid to film director Ronald Neame who had died aged 99.

Mr. Neame had entered the film business as a messenger boy, aged 12, at Elstree studios in England.

He went on to direct a range of films including The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Tunes of Glory, The Odessa File and The Poseidon Adventure, which turned out to be his most successful, commercially. Indeed, it was said to have earned him more money than the rest of his work combined.

Mr. Neame co-wrote screenplays including Brief Encounter and Great Expectations.

The film-maker died in hospital in Los Angeles six weeks after being injured in a fall.
