Tributes are paid to the poet Edwin Morgan

Tributes have been paid to the national poet of Scotland, Edwin Morgan, who has died aged 90.

Mr. Morgan’s writing spanned over 60 years with his book Dreams and Other Nightmares: New and Uncollected Poems 1954-2009 being published earlier this year to mark his 90th. birthday. 

He received many awards including the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry and the Weidenfield Prize for Translation. 

Mr. Morgan, who was born ini Glasgow, became the Scots Makar — or national poet — in 2004.

Among those to pay tribute was the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, who  said “a great, generous, gentle genius has gone. He is quite simply irreplaceable.”
