Tributes have been paid to the film director Sidney Lumet who has died aged 86.
During a long and successful career Mr. Lumet was nominated as Best Director in the Oscars 5 times, but was unsuccessful.
He directed more than 40 movies and these received more than 50 Oscar nominations.
His first major success was with 12 Angry Men (1957), which was a relatively low-budget production which following the deliberations of a jury.
During a very productive period between 1964 and 1976 Mr. Lumet delivered a series of great films including The Pawnbroker (1964), The Anderson Tapes (1971), Serpico (1973) and Network (1976).
His later work included The Verdict (1982), which starred Paul Newman, and Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007), which starred Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Mr. Lumet was awarded an honorary Oscar in 2005.
