Tributes paid to Corrymeela leader

Tributes are being paid following the death of Dr. David Stevens, who was leader of the Corrymeela Community here.

Dr. Stevens, who passed away on Sunday following a short illness, had been leader of the ecumenical community since 2004. He had originally been a volunteer at Corrymeela while studying chemistry at Queen’s University.

The Chair of the Corrymeela Council, Kate Pettis, paid tribute to Dr. Stevens describing him as a “man of integrity, courage and Christian faith”. 

Dr. Stevens had also served on the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights and was a former member of the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council. He was a commissioner for the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.

He is survived by his wife Mathilde and children Thomas and Naomi.

A Service of Thanksgiving for his life will take place on Thursday (May 27) at 2.30 p.m. in Newtownbreda Presbyterian Church (Map).
