Jim Dougal, who was one of the best known journalists in Northern Ireland, has passed away. He was 65.
Mr. Dougal was a highly respected newsman who had worked for all the main Irish television companies.
He was a former Northern Editor for RTE and political editor for the BBC. In recent years he appeared regularly on programmes for Ulster Television.
In 1997 he left broadcasting to take up a top post with the European Commission in Belfast, before moving to their offices in London.
He returned to journalism after leaving the European Commission in 2004.
Many tributes have been paid by leading politicians, church leaders and journalists.
Mr. Dougal had battled cancer a number of times in recent years.
He is survived by his wife Deirdre and children Nicola, Tara, Emma, Tina and James.
