Former Gurkha Tul Bahadur Pun, who was awarded the Victoria Cross during World War II, has passed away. He was 88.
Mr. Pun won the award while serving in Burma in 1944. He had saved the lives of dozens of his comrades after single-handedly destroying a Japanese machine gun emplacement.
In recent years he had joined the actress Joanna Lumley to campaign for the right of former Gurkhas to live in United Kingdom.
His own application for residency had been rejected in 2007.
Their campaign was eventually successful and Mr. Pun settled in West London.
He died in Napal while visiting a project to build a new school in his home village.
