He will be best remembered for his work on a number of popular TV programmes.
He had worked for a number of years alongside Johnny Morris on the Animal Magic series.
His combined his expert knowledge with great gifts of communication to entertain millions of people over the years.
After his work on Animal Magic, he went on to present a number of shows including The Really Wild Show, Growing Up Wild and Pets Wins Prizes. He would also make guest appearances on a range of other TV shows (see below).
As a child, he had helped out at London Zoo and later went to work with Gavin Mazwell, the author of Ring of Bright Water, looking after otters on the west coast of Scotland.
It was during this period, when he was 15, that he had the tips of two fingers bitten off by one of the otters.

Mr. Miles said: “Terry just loved animals. He fought many causes to make sure animals were looked after and the environment in general.”
