Woman with swine flu dies

Another person who had swine flu has died in Northern Ireland. But officials have stressed the victim had underlying health problems.

The woman who died will not be named by the Department of Health.

This brings the total number of swine flu related deaths here to 18.

However, over the past month the Department of Health says there has been a drop in the number of swine flu cases being detected with a corresponding drop in the number of people consulting their GPs or having to be admitted to hospital.

This fall in the figures has been welcomed by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael McBride.

But Dr. McBride went on to sound a note of caution. “I am concerned that this will lead to complacency on the part of the public. I must reinforce the importance of vaccination of those in the at risk groups”.
