Ciaran McGinn was a well known sportsman in County Antrim and was a local hero in his home town of Ballycastle.
He was only 26 when he died at his home in the town.
Mr. McGinn’s local hero status in Ballycastle stemmed from the fact that he had become the first person in 40 years to swim between his home town and Rathlin Island. That effort in 2007 had helped raise funds for the R.N.L.I.
A fitness instructor, Mr. McGinn was a successful triathlete.
Hockey was another sport at which he excelled. He was a former captain of Portrush Hockey Club.
The death stunned the North Antrim community with many people paying tribute to a very popular young man.
